The engagement ring has an important symbolic meaning. It is the key to the beginning of a marriage, so it is recommended to choose the ring that’s most meaningful to the couple. It represents the highest commitment & pledge of love that the groom-to-be will give to his beloved one. The form of real-name customization gives a diamond ring true emotions and a proposal of a lifetime companionship is the most romantic happiness in a girl’s heart.

Tips For Buying An Engagement Ring

1st – Plan a proposal date with ample preparation time

Before buying a wedding ring, you must first determine the date of the marriage proposal and prepare at least 5 months of sufficient time.

It takes a lot of thought and time into choosing the perfect engagement ring. If you choose a specially customized wedding ring, it takes 2-3 months. If you buy one at the very last minute, you may not be able to find the most ideal ring for her. There are also a lot of preparations to be done before the marriage proposal. In addition to the efforts in choosing your partner’s ring, it is also necessary to source for a well-designed marriage proposal venue. Set aside ample time to make the process smoother!

2nd – Understand the Jewellery Brand and Market Price

Nowadays, the online world is highly developed. You can check out various jewellers on the market through online media, as well as compare the ring designs and prices in various stores. Shortlist some of your favourite designs and visit the physical store to view the selections!

As you look through the internet, you can set an ideal ring price based on your own financial conditions. Make sure you understand your significant other’s style and preferences to help you in choosing the “right” ring.

3rd – Choosing an Engagement ring design

You can choose a ring that suits your lady’s hand based on the shape of her fingers. Here are some suggestions for your reference.

Standard Hands

The standard hand is meticulous and slender. Any style of ring will be perfect to match it. If you choose a large diamond with a classic claw inlay style, it will not only highlight the fullness and beauty of the single diamond, but also the temperament, elegance, and nobility of the wearer.

Slender Hands

The lean hand is like the standard hand, but it is not as round and full. Therefore, in the choice of the ring, avoid designs that are too thin. You can choose a forged and thicker ring to increase its solidity and fullness.

Thick and Long Hands

People with thick and long fingers look less delicate, therefore a round and wide ring style is a better choice of option. It is best to inlay larger jewellery on the ring as the band can visually conceal the fingers, making them look magnificent and delicate.

Fingers with Prominent Knuckles

With such knotted fingers, there will be difficulty in sliding the ring around the base of the finger. Simple ring styles with no patterns, jewels, or designs on the entire circle are more recommended. In this way, even if the centre of the pre-designed ring is offset or if it slides to the side of the palm, there will not be too much of a concern.

Short Fingers

Indeed, people with skinny and long fingers look great regardless of the type of rings they wear. On the other hand, it is exceedingly difficult for those with short fingers to look good on certain styles. The wisest choice for this targeted group is a V-shaped ring. The root of the finger is below the V, producing an illusional lengthening effect, causing the finger to look longer than it actually is. Some may not favour the sharpness of the V, thus you can opt for the U-shaped style, which will have the same effect.

Stubby/Fleshy Hands

There is always the worry of the flesh being squeezed out for these wearers. It is more suitable to wear a ring with a certain volume and a softer design. On the other hand, slim models, as well as straight and wide rings, are the least recommended as the effect proved to be less attractive & appears more binding, creating a “muffin-top” of skin on either side & leaving indent marks at the base of your finger.

4th – How to choose the material for the ring?

Considering that the wedding ring should be worn all the time, the quality of the material can be given priority. Most couples must have their own ideas for the ring style and material. Choice of the ring material can be considered in many ways, from matching their daily apparel to complimenting their skin colour tones.

Gold Ring

In the olden days, gold rings would be the first choice for wedding rings. The colour of gold exudes a feeling of festivity, expectations of love and marriage. However, with the trend of fashion, there is a change in aesthetic views, with more younger generations preference of platinum or K18 to set as diamond rings.

24k gold is incredibly soft, thus it is not suitable to be used in jewellery making. Si Dian Jin (四点金) is a traditional wedding custom practised by the Chinese Teochew where it refers to the 4 pieces of gold jewellery consisting of a necklace, a ring, a bangle, and a pair of earrings to be presented to the bride as a betrothal gift by the groom’s mother.

18 karat gold is composed of 75% gold and 25% alloy. In the original form, due to the reliable gold content, the yellow hue of 18k gold is higher than that of 14k gold. It can be used for jewellery after proper care for daily use.

14 karat gold is composed of 58.3% gold and 41.7% alloy. It is wear-resistant and can withstand excessive use while wearing it.

10 karat gold is composed of 41.7% gold and 58.3% alloy. Due to the higher alloy composition, 10k gold jewellery is more prone to discolouration than gold jewellery with a higher opening number. This is one of the reasons why jewellers with stricter quality standards do not use 10k or lower grade gold.

Platinum Ring

Platinum is a naturally formed silver-white precious metal with a strong metallic lustre, and it is also the most expensive precious metal. Platinum, the hardness is about 4~4.5, with very stable performance, is friction & corrosion-resistant, not easy to oxidize and discolour. This is precisely why that many people will choose platinum as the base of their diamond rings to symbolize eternal love.

According to national regulations, only jewellery with a platinum content of 85% or more can be called platinum jewellery, carrying the PT850, PT900 or PT950 logo. The common Pt950 is 95% platinum, the platinum content of Pt900 is 90%, and the platinum content of Pt999 is 99%. The advantage of platinum is that it is easier to maintain in the long run and is much more durable than gold.
