- What is the difference between an engagement ring and a wedding ring ?
An engagement ring basically consists of a big center diamond, whether is it solitaire or prong, halo or bezel design. Whereas wedding bands are rings with or without little diamonds on it. To put it in a simpler way, engagement ring are mainly for proposal purposes while wedding bands are meant for marriage purposes. Though they are not just limited to such usage as there are customers using wedding rings for proposal purpose.
- Are engagement rings only meant for ladies ?
Well, if we were to track back to the historical times, then it definitely is meant for ladies ONLY. But in the current generation, it isn’t necessary just for ladies but it just a matter of whether a man would like to have such a big diamond on their finger ? Else, it would actually link back to second question, where a wedding ring can be used as a proposal purpose.
Let’s go back to the main topic about engagement rings.
Engagement rings comes with multiple designs and some of the commonly seen designs are prong, halo and bezel designs.
Prong design rings, to put them in a simpler saying, it is a ring with claws holding on to the diamond, usually 4 claws or 6 claws. Having 4 claws allows a better view of the diamond as it reveals more of the diamond thus giving better shine. Whereas 6 claws will be much more secure.
Next, we have halo design. Ever seen those cartoon with cupid floating around ? Those cupid have a ring floating above their head, that is a halo. Likewise for a halo design engagement ring, it is a ring of little diamond around the main diamond but definitely not floating. The main benefit to allow a smaller sized diamond enhanced into a bigger sized looks.
Last but not least will be bezel designs. Bezel is known to be the most secure ring as it holds the entire diamond unlike prong designs where they only have a few claws holding it down. Furthermore, Bezel setting hides the inclusions on the side of the diamond unlike claw designs where every little side inclusions might be visible to a focused look. Also, bezel are usually more suitable for daily usage as they don’t have any sharp points to hook on anything.
