Causes and types of swollen fingers and their relationship with the seasons

Causes of swollen fingers

The main cause of swollen fingers is the accumulation of water. When water accumulates in the fingertips, swelling occurs. Normally, water is absorbed by the intestines and carried around the body with the blood. However, when we drink too much water, the intestines are unable to absorb it and the excess water accumulates under the skin. This is known as water retention. In addition, water falls downwards due to gravity. The longer you keep your fingers down, the more likely they are to swell.

Swelling upon waking up

Many of us have had swollen fingers when we wake up. When you lie on your side, your body is at the same height from your head to your feet and the amount of water in your body is equalized. This means that there is more water in your fingers when you are asleep than when you are active, which is why your fingers may be swollen when you wake up.

Swelling outside of waking hours

Drinking too much alcohol can reduce blood circulation and cause swelling. If you are concerned about swelling, take a day off from drinking. Too much salt can also cause swelling. If you consume too much salt, your body will retain water in order to regulate salt levels. If you are prone to swelling, it is important to change your diet. Try to eat lightly seasoned food. It is also a good idea to eat fruits and seaweeds that are high in potassium. Potassium helps to remove water from the body, making it easier to reduce swelling.

Sleep is also important in reducing swelling. Sleeping helps the lymphatic system to work better, which in turn helps to reduce swelling. The less sleep you get, the less time your lymphatic system has to circulate, so try to get at least seven hours of sleep. Coldness and stress can also reduce circulation and lead to swelling. If this sounds like you, try to keep your body cool and reduce stress.

Types of swelling

If you are prone to swelling of the fingers, you should review your lifestyle. If you don’t exercise much, don’t drink much water, or eat and drink a lot of cold food, your fingers are likely to swell. To prevent swelling of the fingers, it is important to exercise regularly. If you don’t get the chance to exercise often, try walking with a slightly longer stride and stretching after bathing. Moving and stretching your muscles will help to improve circulation.

Some people think that drinking water will make them swell, but a certain amount of water is necessary to improve circulation. Move around a lot and drink as much water as you need. Also, be careful if you consume too many cold drinks or ice creams. If you drink too many cold drinks and ice creams, you may find that your muscles become stiff and your metabolic rate slows down. If you are consuming too much cold food, drink warm water rather than cold water.

Effective ways to reduce swelling of the hands

Warm your hands and fingers

If you feel swelling in your fingers, try warming your fingers and hands to improve circulation. The best way to warm up your fingers and hands is to take a bath. Soak in the bath and warm up your fingers and hands. If you don’t have time to take a bath, you can prepare a tub of water with a temperature of 36°C to 39°C and soak your whole hand in it for five minutes.

Apply taping

Swelling of the fingers can also be relieved by applying pressure. You can use taping to apply pressure from the base of the finger to the tip of the finger. However, be careful not to apply too much pressure. If you wrap them too tightly, blood flow will be reduced and swelling may become worse. The pressure should be as strong as you feel comfortable with.

Hand massage

Hand massage is a great way to improve blood circulation and reduce swelling. Use a hand cream when massaging your hands. It is best to do this after taking a bath. When massaging, be careful not to grip the fingers too tightly.

Pressure points

There are three pressure points that can help reduce swelling in the fingers. Here are some tips on where to find them and how to press them.

●Labour Palace
The acupuncture point is located in the middle of the palm of the hand where the tip of the middle finger meets the tip of the thumb. Press the acupuncture point strongly with the thumb of the opposite hand for about five seconds. It is best to press five times on each hand.

●Well Hole
There is an acupuncture point on each side of the nail called the “well hole”. The well can also be used to slim the fingers. It is best to press each finger 10 times.

●Acupuncture points
Between the thumb and forefinger, there is a point called “Acupuncture points”. It is said that just by pressing it, you can relieve not only swelling but also stiff shoulders, constipation and tired eyes. Press hard on the acupuncture point for about three seconds. Repeat several times. You can also press on the depressions of the other fingers to stimulate blood circulation. Pressing the acupuncture points is not effective for a short time. Keep doing it every day.

Exercises for thinner fingers

Stretch + Grabbing exercise

You can improve circulation in the fingertips by simply raising your arms above your heart in the upper body position. It can also help to improve the circulation in the fingertips as well as the whole arm. It’s even better if you do the grabbing motion while doing the banzai. Here’s how to do it.

First, get into a stretch position on your upper body. Make sure you keep your back straight. After 3 seconds, stretch your fingertips out and open them up, again for 3 seconds. Repeat this exercise several times to improve circulation in the hands and reduce swelling. It is also helpful to rotate the wrist with the hand in a closed fist or to dangle the hand spread out wide.

Stretch your fingers

Stretch your fingers. Raise your arms to shoulder height and stretch your hands out in front of you. With the palm of one hand facing upwards, lightly grasp all four fingers except the thumb with the other hand. Keep the fingertips pointing downwards and slowly turn them back up, holding for 10-15 seconds. Do the same for the other side, two sets on each side.
