Precious Pearls, The Timeless Accessory

Elegant and timeless, pearls have withstood the changing of times, everchanging trends and remained loved by ladies of all generation. Adding a pearl accessory to your outfit would instantly add a touch of sophistication and femininity. Today I will be introducing our beautiful Pearls from Japan and other parts of the world!

At VENUS TEARS, we carry a variety of pearls from Japan and some parts of the world. From Japan, we have the Akoya and Hanadama Pearls. The term “Hanadama” was coined by the father of cultured pearls himself, Kokichi Mikimoto. He used this term to designate his finest, most beautiful Akoya pearls.

“Hanadama” directly translates from Japanese to “Spherical Flower” and are also often called “Flower Pearls” by those in the trade. The delicate shades of pink shimmering over their surfaces are said to be reminiscent of the famous Cherry blossoms that bloom throughout Japan in the Springtime.

The lustre and orient on Japanese Hanadama Akoya pearls are certified to be the very highest and strongest of all Akoya pearls. These attributes are analyzed and certified to meet specific levels set by the Pearl Science Laboratory of Tokyo, Japan. The PSL is the foremost authority on Hanadama pearls and the only official Hanadama grading lab in the world.

We also have a variety of South Sea Pearls that you can choose from. So what exactly is South Sea Pearls?

South Sea pearls are cultured using a large, white-lipped oyster, hand-selected from the waters of the South Pacific. The oyster is about twice the size of the Akoya pearl oyster and produces much larger pearls.

These luxurious pearls are cultured in Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Japan and Thailand. To culture South Sea pearls, one round shell bead is implanted into the tissue of a large, white-lipped pearl oyster. In reaction to this irritant, the oyster begins to produce nacre, the lustrous coating that creates the pearl.

The more time the pearls spend in the water, the more coats of nacre they develop, which creates their lustrous look. The bead remains within the pearl beneath the layers of nacre. On average, a South Sea pearl will require two to three years to develop. A South Sea pearl oyster can produce up to three or four pearls over the course of its life.
