What is “Forging”?

We believe most people doesn’t know what it is, hence, we are here to explain a little to you. The word “Forging” refers to a generic term which describes metal working process by forming metal workpieces with high heat and pressure.

Forging is the process of shaping different material such as gold and platinum by applying high amount of direct pressure, to stretch and bend them.

Some facts that you may or may not know,

1. Forging process can create things that are harder than most other metalwork process.

2. Airplanes, automobiles, ships, engines and even missiles are also created by forging method.

3. Forging method has a history of over 6000 years and goes all the way back to as early as 4000 BC or earlier.

Forging, in Japan, is a very traditional technique handed down since ancient times. Stuff like Japanese swords, knives, certain cutleries, etc., are also made with forging method.

Since there are lesser craftsmen taking over forging techniques, things that are made using this specific method are becoming rare and aren’t commonly seen in accessories stores.

Smooth finish

Forging increases the density of the metal, resulting in a smoother finish with a heavier overall feel. The hardness of the surface is also higher, resulting in a stronger shine when polished. Also, when the surface is processed, the craftsman will carefully beat it with a hammer to create different designs and outlooks. The end result is what makes the craftsmen proud, the owner of the rings happy and in love.

Some deemed the rings they’ve seen is simple looking, while others deemed the forging process to be simple. But none has ever thought of the fact that making with this method requires a high amount of patience as knocking, hammering, or even pulling requires a high amount of skills and some amount of timeframe. Let alone to talk about making of rings which is only a very small piece. You’ll need great eyesight and a pair of very sturdy hands as well. Every little mistake can cause the rings to be ruined and they’ll have to remake the rings.

Lets’ take a look at the unique carving of Maile!

Princess – With a deep love for Hawaii and a gentle heart, this design is symbolized after Princess Kaiulani who was declared a star of hope of Hawaii. Waves are said to bring happiness, plumeria meaning loved ones and love, and the design of leaves connecting waves leads us to a future filled with love and hope.

Little Mermaid

A unique material “shiny gold” is added into the Little Mermaid bridal collection along with “platinum” which represents “the cherished world above” & “beautiful underwater world”. This unique color also means the unique value shared between you and your partner.

Two gemstones is placed on the inside of the ring, “Aquamarine” in the wedding bands and “Peridot” in the engagement rings. This two gemstones together have the meaning of “wishes are imbued”.

Each gemstones have their own meaning :

“Peridot” signifies hope, peace and marital love. Just like Ariel who stayed true to herself, eventually got into a blessed and happily-ever-after marriage.

The translucent “Aquamarine” signifies serenity, happiness and everlasting youth. Also, this color tends to make one think of the sea. It is believed this gemstone possess calming powers which was worn as a talisman by the Greek and Romans in the past to ensure a safe and prosperous passage across stormy seas.

Now, let us get down to the looks of the rings.

“Secret of the sea”
This designs looks like the wave of the sea, it gives one the feel of gentle flowing water along with the two-toned material which resembles the sunlight shining down on the sea.

“Dreaming mermaid”
This wedding bands will resemble the glimmering effect of moonlight shining on the water surface at night. This two-toned material resembles moonlight shining on the gentle swaying water surface at night.
Whereas the crown of the engagement ring will look like the splash marks as Ariel dive into the sea from the surface.

“Dancing bubbles”
This designs resembles the sparking bubbles as you move the rings around the light, it’ll sparkle like the bubbles underwater. At the same time, the texture on the rings depicts the ripple of water.
The inside of the ring will also have the “bubble motif” which is inspired by water.
